Fueled by powerful winds and dry conditions, a series of ferocious wildfires erupted Tuesday and roared across the Los Angeles area.

The Hurst Fire has set 505 acres ablaze near San Fernando, California in the Sylmar neighborhood, according to Cal Fire. It is 0% contained. The cause of the fire, which was discovered on Tuesday at around 10:30 p.m., remains under investigation, according to the department.

The Palisades Fire could cause more than $10 billion in damages, further straining the state’s fragile insurance market.

The number of fires burning in Los Angeles county is staggering. The Palisades Fire is the largest, and it's burning 15,000 acres in west LA, which is about the size of Paradise Valley. Meantime, the Eaton Fire turned deadly in east LA.
