Southeast Texas on Friday is facing a rare heightened risk of severe weather, a threat level seen only when destructive weather events have followed, such as last May's derecho and the post-Christmas tornado outbreak.

Storms will likely fire up as early as lunchtime into the early afternoon as the bubble up from south and west of San Antonio. These storms will have a lot of lightning, heavy downpours and even a chance to see some hail as we get later into the afternoon.

The beautiful weekend ends with a very pleasant evening across southeast Texas. A storm system will eventually impact Houston as it progresses across the state.
