Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as a Category 5 hurricane -- one of the most powerful hurricane landfalls on record in the Atlantic basin.

NOW: Hurricane Melissa has made landfall near New Hope, Jamaica, as a 185 mph Category 5 storm, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The National Hurricane Center warned of “catastrophic and life-threatening” flooding, landslides, and storm surges as high as 13 feet along Jamaica’s southern coast.
