A million Bay Staters are at risk of losing their SNAP benefits just days from now, as a political firestorm has erupted amid the federal government shutdown, and a message from a state agency
"The federal government provides about $240 million a month in SNAP benefits to Massachusetts residents," Healey said. "There's no way that the state can make up for that."
State officials say more than one million people in the Bay State alone will be hurt when SNAP benefits end on November first.
The state’s fiscals leaders are continuing to sound the alarm on the current food assistance crisis, which is under added pressure during the ongoing government shutdown.
