Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves said in a statement Monday that he has approved the deployment of approximately 200 troops to Washington, D.C.

The main drag in Washington's Columbia Heights neighborhood is typically crammed with people peddling pupusas, fresh fruit, souvenirs and clothing.

"The Democrats are weak on crime. Totally weak on crime," he later added.
