California's vote this November on what's known as Proposition 50 will have tremendous consequences for the 2026 midterms and the 2028 presidential election.

(Reuters) -Four California Republicans filed a lawsuit on Tuesday seeking to block Governor Gavin Newsom's redistricting plan, which would create five new Democratic U.S. congressional seats in his state.

Newsom and California Democrats proposed new congressional lines on Friday in an attempt to eliminate potential gains in Texas, where Republicans backed by Donald Trump launched a nationwide redistricting battle with nakedly partisan ambitions ahead of midterm elections in 2026.
