The San Jose Sharks’ game against the New York Rangers began with a bang in more ways than one.
The New York Rangers finally scored some goals on home ice at Madison Square Garden, but it didn’t matter, as they suffered an 6-5 overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night.
Celebrini stole the puck from defensemen Braden Schneider in the corner to the left of the Rangers, took a stride, and fed Smith with a cross-ice pass for a one-timer that beat Igor Shesterkin.
Rangers coach MIke Sullivan hopes his team wakes up after losing to the Sharks at home. It was San Jose's first win of the season.
Taylor Raddysh's second career hat trick for the Rangers matched one by San Jose's young star Macklin Celebrini.
