In a letter sent to leaders in every state, the Food and Nutrition Service blamed the ongoing federal government shutdown for lack of SNAP funding.

Food Bank of Iowa serves 55 of the state’s 99 counties. A spokesperson says if federal SNAP funds temporarily stop next month, the Food Bank expects hundreds of additional people to show up needing food.
