Interest rates up amid hawkish cash rate talk
Home loan and term deposit interest rates continued to rise this week in spite of the Reserve Bank holding the cash rate on Tuesday.
Analysts widely believe the current rate, 3.75%, will be held for a fourth consecutive time. On Wednesday, the rate of UK inflation unexpectedly remained at 2.8%.
The Fed has long targeted 2% inflation over the long run. But in May, the Consumer Price Index rose 4.2% on an annual basis. That's well above the Fed's preferred level, which means the central bank may now be more likely to raise interest rates before the end of the year.
