Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) on Thursday called a federal vaccine advisory committee “totally discredited” ahead of a vote on whether to change hepatitis B vaccine guidelines, an issue very close to the Louisiana physician.

The Centers for Disease Control recently changed bullet points on its vaccine safety web page. Under “key points,” the CDC states, “The claim ‘vaccines do not cause autism’ is not an evidence-based claim because studies have not ruled out the possibility that infant vaccines cause autism.

We also can’t rule out the possibility that infant vaccines cause tornadoes or bad movies. Uncertainty is inseparable from science. Kennedy has firsthand knowledge of how difficult it is to prove a medical assertion.

Public health experts, doctors and scientists have decried the update as the kind of misinformation the CDC has fought for decades.
