For the first time in more than a century, cougar cubs have been spotted living in the Michigan wild. On Wednesday, state biologists confirmed two cougar cubs were on private land in Ontonagon County in the western Upper Peninsula. The cubs were verified by photographs taken by a resident on March 6, who photographed the cubs with their mother.

Cougar cubs have not been documented in Michigan in over 100 years, but state biologists can confirm recent photos officially ended the dry spell. On March 13, Michigan Department of Natural Resources released a trio of images that show a pair of tiny cougars roaming a snowy portion of the Upper Peninsula in Ontonagon County.

The 7- to 9-week-old cubs were found on private land in Ontonagon County in the western Upper Peninsula. A local residents photographed them.

A pair of young cougar cubs spotted in the Upper Peninsula earlier this month could be the first of their kind to be born in Michigan in more than 100 years.
