Netflix’s new miniseries based on the hit 1981 movie of the same name paid homage to the original material with a surprise appearance by none other than Alan Alda himself.

Alda’s appearance comes nearly 44 years to the day after The Four Seasons film premiered in theaters on April 30, 1981. Sadly, Alda is the only original actor to make an appearance in the series, although DECIDER recently chatted with Fey, who said they are open to welcoming Burnett if her schedule clears up and they get a second season.

The eight-episode TV adaptation from Tina Fey and fellow “30 Rock” alumni Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield is deeply confused about its intentions, retaining most of the movie’s details (so much so that it feels like the equivalent of cinematic karaoke) while also making changes that fail to deepen the narrative.
