After an escalation of tension between the U.S. and Colombia, President Gustavo Petro met with John McNamara, the U.S. chargé d'affaires to calm the situation.

President Trump called Colombia's president an "illegal drug leader" and pledged to end U.S. aid to the country, following the leader's criticism of U.S. strikes on alleged drug boats.

The move is the latest in a string of escalations from the US which has struck at least six ships in the Caribbean Sea in recent weeks.
