Federal agent operations canceled in the Bay Area amid ongoing protests, Oakland Mayor Lee says
Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee confirmed Friday that federal agent operations have been canceled for the entire Bay Area.
President Trump had said on Thursday that he called off the deployment in San Francisco. Two federal officials said on Friday that the action applied across the region.
The news comes one day after San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie said President Donald Trump agreed to call off the "surge" in San Francisco. In a statement on Truth Social, the Trump said he would call off the "surge" to San Francisco, but did not mention the wider Bay Area, ending his post with "Stay Tuned!"
It was unclear whether the rest of the Bay Area would also be free from federal enforcement efforts, as was promised for San Francisco.
