Photos capture winter weather in East Tennessee
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Winter weather has arrived in East Tennessee, with photos capturing flurries of snow that is expected to mix with sleet and freezing rain later in the day. Storm Team 6 is tracking the winter storm as it moves across the region.
Models are now all in agreement that Middle Tennessee will start off seeing snow Saturday morning and throughout most of the day. Then, a changeover to ice -- sleet and freezing rain -- takes over, followed by rain later on Sunday. As the system moves out of the Midstate, it will exit with more wintry weather-- a mix of snow and ice.

Following the winter storm, temperatures in East Tennessee will remain freezing. A strong cold front will usher in arctic-like air into the region with wind chills dropping to 3 to 8 degrees above zero across much of the region, according to the National Weather Service's Jan. 24 report.
The Tennessee Department of Health confirmed at least three people died during the winter storm that swept across the state.
The Nashville office of the National Weather Service upgraded the winter storm watch to a warning ahead of expected snow and ice this weekend.
