Investors are weighing lackluster earnings from Tesla and rising oil prices after President Trump hit Russia with sanctions.

Shares of Dow Inc. jumped 12.95% to $24.51 Thursday, on what proved to be an all-around favorable trading session for the stock market, with the S&P 500 Index rising 0.58% to 6,738.44 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rising 0.

Dow hits record high as U.S. stocks soar. Investors cheered a lighter-than-expected inflation report. The Dow Jones climbed 400 points. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq also posted strong gains. Technology and semiconductor stocks led the rally.

The company posted a net loss of $0.19 a share on an adjusted basis, narrower than analysts’ projected loss of $0.30 a share, according to consensus estimates. Revenue totaled $9.97 billion, falling short of the expected $10.23 billion and down 8% from the year-ago period amid lower prices and softer demand across all operating segments.

Equities fell on Wednesday as the first of the Magnificent Seven stocks — Tesla — prepares to deliver earnings results after the market's close.
