Previously, the Search bar was a simple pill that featured Google’s “G” logo on the left end, and then had the custom shortcut, voice input, and Google Lens buttons on the right.
Instead, it may take you to a page that mimics Google. At the top of the page, there’s a search bar accompanied by small text beneath it and a doodle-like image.
The Google (Search) app did that last year before reverting, and it’s now back. Update 10/31: We’re now seeing the Material 3 bottom bar in the stable channel with Google app 15.42.
For a random set of users running the latest Google beta app (version 15.35.41.29.arm64), Google seems to be testing a small, but significant improvement to its home screen Search widget.
