Rory McIlroy has been known to take some sharp U-turns on his opinions over the last few years, particularly as it relates to the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. He was willing to state another position Wednesday as strong as any. He is not playing the PGA Tour Champions when he turns 50. “Absolutely not,” McIlroy said with a smile.

McIlroy, who added that he still has plenty of things he hopes to accomplish in his golf career, has myriad interests outside of golf including as the co-founder of TGL and a growing business portfolio,

Scheffler isn't the only player off to a slow start. PGA and British Open champion Xander Schauffele played the season opener at Kapalua and then sat out two months waiting on a rib injury to heal. He returned last week at brittle Bay Hill and did well to make the cut for the 58th straight tournament on the PGA Tour.

Scheffler became the first back-to-back winner at TPC Sawgrass in 2024, but isn’t worried about the past as he heads into this year’s tournament.

The Players Championship has four decades of history at TPC Sawgrass suggesting it doesn't favor a particular style of golf — power player or pea
