The $1 million Louisiana Derby (G2) at Fair Grounds has produced two of the last six winners of the Kentucky Derby (G1).

Brian Lynch originally planned to run Owen Almighty in the Grade 2 Pat Day Mile on the Kentucky Derby undercard, since the Speightstown colt's pedigree doesn't necessarily lend itself to 1 1/4 miles.
