Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes endured a rare rocky start in an 8-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs. Skenes gave up three home runs in the fifth inning, two more than he allowed across his first six starts of the season.

Despite playing well initially, Skenes took his third loss of the season. He threw four scoreless frames then gave up three in the fifth inning. Dansby Swanson, Kyle Tucker and Seiya Suzuki each hit home runs off of Skenes in the frame to give the Cubs the lead for good.
