For the first time in UFC history, a no contest was immediately declared in the main event of a title fight after an inadvertent eye poke brought an early end to UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi on Saturday .
The UFC 321 main event ended not with celebration, but with disappointment and pain. What was expected to be a heavyweight showcase turned into a shocking scene as Tom Aspinall suffered eye pokes in both eyes — a rare and brutal outcome that halted the action before fans could see a clear finish.
Some might have predicted a first-round stoppage when Tom Aspinall and Ciryl Gane met in the main event of UFC 321 on Saturday, but no one could have foreseen the stoppage being because of an incidental eye poke.
It's a disappointing result, with Gane getting off to a fantastic start in his third bid to become champion and Aspinall returning fire in his first defense as UFC champion. However, safety comes first for the fighters, though the crowd was not happy and booed Aspinall for not continuing to fight.
When Jon Jones retired from MMA in early 2025, he did so under somewhat complicated circumstances. By the time he hung up the gloves, he was irrefutably one of the greatest fighters in MMA history—maybe the best outright.
Kayla Harrison, an Olympic gold medalist from Middletown, Ohio, is the reigning UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion. Harrison has overcome personal challenges, including surviving sexual abuse, which she uses to empower others through her Fearless Foundation.
