Auston Matthews is officially the top goalscorer in Toronto Maple Leafs history. Matthews scored his 421st career goal during Saturday's first period against the New York Islanders to pass Mats Sundin for the all-time franchise record. Matthews tied Sundin's record with his 420th goal earlier in the period.
The Maple Leafs captain passed Hall of Famer Mats Sundin with the 421st goal of his career in a Toronto uniform at 17:19 of the second period of a 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Islanders at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, on Saturday.
For all of Auston Matthews' many accomplishments in a Maple Leafs sweater, he needs something else to truly become the greatest Leaf.
