Wildfires have killed two people in Spain and two others have died in France because of a heatwave that has gripped Europe and forced the closure of a nuclear reactor at a Swiss power plant. With scorching temperatures again on Wednesday,

France's ecological transition minister, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, said the two deaths in her country were a result of "heat-related illness". It comes as France registered its second-hottest June since records began in 1900. June 2025 only trails behind June 2023, when the country also experienced intense heat.

“These scams are being reported in major tourist hubs across Europe, particularly in Spain, Italy, France and Turkey, where organised theft rings often operate around airports like Barcelona El Prat, Rome Fiumicino, Paris Charles de Gaulle and Istanbul Airport.”
