An increase in high pressure and onshore flow of more moisture-rich air out of the Gulf could make Monday warmer and muggier than in recent days.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a series of weather alerts for Houston and surrounding counties, urging residents to prepare for heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and the likelihood of severe thunderstorms over the weekend.

Houston's weather is transitioning to clear skies and cooler temperatures post-mugginess, with a cold front leading to lower humidity and below-average precipitation forecasted.

HOUSTON - The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for much of the Houston area as heavy storms are set to begin to move into the area overnight until 5 a.m. Sunday morning. A storm system is set to move in, bringing potential for heavy rain and severe weather starting overnight tonight into Saturday morning.

Winds up to 40 mph are possible with these storms, as well as small hail. Heavy downpours could lead to localized flooding. Storms have the potential to intensify as they push further into Southeast Texas through the rest of the night. It is advised to stay in a safe location until the storms pass.

Amid widespread torrential rains, wind gusts reached as high as 45-60 mph across the Houston metro area, the National Weather Service said. In Downtown Houston, a gust of 59 mph was reported, while a 64 mph gust was measured in Hempstead.

Storms will linger in San Antonio through Saturday morning, but another round of storms could develop across Central and East Texas later in the day.
