🌀 A deepening tropical low south of Timor is forecast to develop into a tropical cyclone on Sunday. It'll track southwest over the open waters north of WA and most likely remain over water. Although there is still an outside chance of it moving close to the west Pilbara coast later in the week. Another tropical low further west is causing rain and squally conditions to Christmas Island but has a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone. There are three active tropical systems over the Coral Sea and south west Pacific Ocean, two of which are currently tropical cyclones. Tropical Cyclone Lucas is currently over the Coral Sea, south of Papua New Guinea as a Category 2 system (at 11am AEST). It will continue to move east, and then southeast, possibly impacting Vanuatu and New Caledonia as it moves through, however there is still uncertainty about the track. Our tropical cyclone forecasters are keeping a close watch on the development of a tropical low pressure system in the Coral Sea near Vanuatu and Fiji. Conditions across the region will favour the intensification into a tropical cyclone this weekend or early next week.
